Plywood Cowboy
Plywood Cowboy
Formed in 2015 in the Connecticut River Valley, Plywood Cowboy is poised to rewrite the American Songbook. "With great harmonies, clever songs and tasty guitar pickin', Plywood Cowboy is one of the best new bands on the Americana scene." (Chris Bergson, NY Blues Hall of Fame Inductee). Their heart-born songs interweave the rich heritage of earthy, country roots with the sentimental poignancy of singer-songwriter traditions. Bottle-fed on roots music, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Steve Dedman and his band strike deep at the soul of American music with songs about hound dogs, heart strings, and the vice of the bottle.

Plywood Cowboy’s 2016 debut EP, Channel 33, was produced by Grammy-nominated artist Ira Sakolsky at Riverway Studios. The album has been called "a gorgeously assured collection of songs” (The Shoreline Times), “a seriously hooky debut EP” (The Day), and “steeped in tradition, with lyrics full of longing, truth and heart” (Sound Waves Magazine). The character-driven songs paint a story and, with glimmers of hopefulness, plant a smile within. The band’s current lineup features Austin Gray (guitar, vocals), Ed Iarusso (pedal steel), Jason Apostoleris (percussion), Kat Wallace (violin), Shane Tanner (bass), and Steve Dedman (keyboard, guitar, lead vocals).

On the heels of a hugely successful EP release concert at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (The Kate), Plywood Cowboy is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after bands from Connecticut. Their 2016 appearances reflect their growing popularity across the state and region and include such venues as The Kate, Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center, Black Eyed Sally’s, Performance HUB, Hill-Stead Museum, iCRaVe Music Fest at Ivoryton Playhouse, Monadnock Pumpkin Festival (NH), Mocha Maya’s (MA), The Day’s Live Lunch Break, Middletown Music Festival, and Glastonbury Apple Harvest Festival. Plywood Cowboy’s 2017 bookings include the Meriden Daffodil Festival, Bridge Street Live, Portland Music Festival and a performance alongside U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival. Taking his songs on the road, Dedman has performed at The Falcon Underground (NY), Puckett’s (TN), The Acoustic Coffeehouse (TN), Luthier’s Co-op (MA), and as a finalist at Infinity Hall’s Big Stage Open Mic Competition.
